March 24, 2014

So last week my email was super short and I forgot to tell you it was because we were going to go to Salem with a member in the ward which is why it was so short. But I sent you a postcard! I hope you got it. I also have pictures!

Basically Salem was a TON of fun. Half of the cool places were closed though because it's the off season, but they're all expensive anyway. The best part though was that we found....a HARRY POTTER store!! I was ECSTATIC!  It was the coolest thing ever. There, I bought a Gryffindor hat. Then we went walking around. The members (The Steadmans) showed us a historic home of an lds guy that ended up going west. It was cool because Brigham Young was staying at that house when he found out Joseph Smith had been martyred. It was interesting....but it was just a house. Then we went to a cemetery that was kinda creepy, but really cool. They also had a memorial site for all the people who had been hanged for being witches. Except one old guy who as crushed to death. That was really cool. Then we found a WAND SHOP and I bought a wand. It was so cool in there. There was a candle and if you waved the wand it would turn on and off. That's how you knew if it was the right wand, because as you know the wand chooses the wizard. I was debating between two different wands--the Hermione inspired wand and the Bellatrix Lestrange inspired wand. The Bellatrix wand didn't even work for me so I went with the Hermione wand. Duh. Then we went to a warf where a lighthouse was. It was really pretty there, although there wasn't much to do. We got a lot of really good pictures though.
So that was Salem.

There other big news is that we had transfers texts! It was a surprise, but I'm actually getting transferred! I'm heading to Hartford Connecticut. I'll be finishing my companion's training. I'm really excited, but also kind of sad. It's always the same with transfers.

So N officially has a baptismal date! She's getting baptized on May 3rd! I obviously won't be there, but I'm REALLY excited for her! She was one of those golden investigators. She's awesome. Hopefully I'll be able to come back for her baptism.

I skipped a week due to being out of town, here it is. Back to the chile pepper design per Hermana Hutchinson's request.

March 10, 2014

Well this was an interesting week. It all started off with us going and being 'actors' for a CNA clinical. We were only going to help one of our investigator, G, but we ended up staying there for 5 hours, helping all of her other foreign classmates as well. We got 3 contacts out of it, so we didn't complain for a second. It was interesting. Basically I went in an acted like a really old person who couldn't do anything for myself while she pretended to dress me and cut my nails.

Then on thursday I woke up with some pretty intense stomach pains. Like, that was the most pain I've ever experienced in my entire life. We called the doctor and he said it was acid reflux so I took some Prilosec and all was well. Turns out it's a normal symptom of Rifampin. He called me back that evening and told me he was going to write me a prescription for prilosec as a preventative measure. So not only am I taking Rifampin, but I'll be taking prilosec too. The good news is once June 12 hits, I'm FREE from all the drugs.

Speaking of June 12th, that also happens to be the first day of the World Cup! So the Rifampin countdown I have in my calendar also doubles as a countdown to the Soccor World Cup that's going to be in Brazil. I've never been excited for the World Cup. But I'm part Chilean now, so it's in my blood.

Also on thursday, we met with our new investigator N! She is awesome! There's a sister in the spanish group named M Q that's been inviting her to church and telling her about the
gospel. This woman is so prepared for the gospel, it's awesome! I'm excited for her.

We also had zone meeting this week. The highlight was when Sister L and I did the announcements. We did it like we were newscasters and everyone loved it. It was really funny.

I also got to go to the Boston Temple this week! I would send you a picture, but there's like an anti-sd card slot law in Massachusetts or something (not really) so I can't hook my camera up right now, but one of these days I'll send pictures to you! One of sister P's  converts went to do baptisms at the temple. She brought a family name so it was a REALLY cool experience. It was also the first time I've done baptisms since high school so I really enjoyed it. The Boston temple is really cool and the baptismal font is HUGE, well at least the oxen under the font. I guess the font itself is normal sized. It was super cool.

So this week has been really good. We've been working a lot! N is doing awesome. We had a dinner with her and her husband at a members house on Friday. We taught her about receiving revelation and she loved it. We invited her to come to church with a question in mind. Hopefully she did it and received an answer. We're meeting with her tomorrow so I'm hoping that will go well. Sister Q, her friend is SO excited for N. She thinks that she is really prepared for baptism and it won't be to difficult to get her on board with it too. I must say I agree with her. She seems like we came in at the perfect moment to help her get closer to Christ. Funny how everything works out that way.

This week was a little uneventful I must say. We did have an activity on Saturday. It was a chili cook-off which was really fun. We had a photo booth and dancing and of course, food. I'll send you pictures.

The transfer is winding down and we all can't help but wonder what's going to happen to us. Sister P is going to Brazil so we have no idea what's going to happen to Sister L and I. Not to mention that the missionary organization between the two wards is a little confusing. We're interested to see how t-texts will pan out on Saturday. I'll have transfer related news next week!

Love you all!!

March 3, 2014

This week was awesome! There has been a lot going on. We started an English class, but like a pretty legit English class. We have been putting a lot of time and energy to make it work. We started it and it has been a HUGE success! We have two classes a week and between the two classes we have about 30-40 people coming. Most of them are nonmembers. It's been awesome! We're trying to get the ward involved too so it won't die when we get transferred.

We also had 3 nonmembers at the Spanish group yesterday. And a less active member came (with her nonmember husband) to have her baby blessed! It was such a neat experience. The spirit was so strong, it was awesome!

This week has been a big adventure for my companionship. Sister P has been waiting for her visa for about 9 months now. She was going to have a request sent in to change her mission to Boston but the President got a call that her visa came in! She has really mixed feelings about it because she loves this mission so much and is really nervous about going to Brazil. But she also really wants to go (uh hello, she'll be there for the WORLD CUP!). She's been a mix of a lot of emotions this week but we've been helping her through it :) It's funny because it's like the roles are switching. She's the one who's abruptly changing missions halfway through now. She's been asking me cute questions like "was it scary going to chile?" She's such an awesome missionary, I know she will do well in Brazil.

The medication is doing okay.  The headaches have been going away so that's good.

I'm loving Massachusetts and all the work I'm doing here! Keep on being awesome and helping the missionaries!

February 24, 2014

This week we were snowed in twice. But the rest of the week was really good. We have been working a lot with members and less active members, especially from the spanish group. It's so fun to see how much the people in the Spanish group love to share the gospel! There's a guy named Brother T who downloaded the mormon channel app on to the phones of his coworkers. He is hilarious! Our investigator is doing great! He came to church last sunday, but he didn't make it yesterday. We haven't gotten to see him very much, but he has been reading the Book of Mormon which is a good sign!

Saturday was the 9 month mark for one of the sisters in our apartment. Her name is Sister H and she is super awesome. Her companion, Sister C approached us in the morning and said she didn't know what to do for Sister H and asked if we could help her so help her we did. Sister P bought a Ukelele (there's ukelele fever at my apartment) so we wrote a song for Sister H and when she came home we surprised her with a song! We got it on video, but the video is too big to send so you might have to wait until I get home to watch it, but it's awesome. It's to the tune of Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam. She LOVED it. She still talks about it.

Well, I hope you're all doing well!  Keep being awesome and doing missionary work!
